Virginia’s focused efforts to tackle violence in 13 cities — including Danville — has helped accelerate a statewide reduction in homicides and other violent crime, a new analysis from Virginia Commonwealth University found.

The “ Ceasefire Virginia ” campaign calls for stepped-up police efforts in those cities, including “surges” by Virginia State Police officers, along with programs aimed at preventing violence, such as emergency room interventions to discourage victims of violent crime from retaliating by connecting them with counseling and other services, including follow-up support after they are discharged.
