ST. LOUIS — An off-duty St. Louis police sergeant was over the legal blood alcohol limit when he hit a man on a moped, causing the man's lower leg to be amputated, say charges filed Wednesday.
Christopher R. Murray, 44, had a blood-alcohol limit of .096% — over the legal limit in Missouri of .08% — when he struck a man on while turning left onto Carondelet Boulevard from Morgan Ford Road, charges say.
Police department spokesman Mitch McCoy said Murray is still employed as a sergeant at the department. He graduated from the police academy in 2008.
Charges say Murray was driving south on Morgan Ford on Oct. 1. When he tried to turn left onto Carondelet, he failed to yield for a man on a moped who was driving north, charges say.
