LAWRENCE — The Big 12 Conference announced a $25,000 fine for Kansas football on Wednesday, following comments made by coach Lance Leipold after a loss this past weekend at Texas Tech.

The Big 12 release outlines that Kansas’ fine is because of “disparaging comments about the Conference and a member institution,” as well as “an inaccurate statement regarding a pocketknife by head coach Lance Leipold.”

Following a 42-17 loss against Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas, Leipold criticized the Big 12’s handling of objects being thrown onto the field — which led to multiple penalties — and alleged a pocket knife was thrown and hit a staff member during the game. Texas Tech was also fined $25,000 because of “ repeated instances of objects being thrown onto the playing surface” during the game.
