The city of Phoenix Transportation, Infrastructure and Planning Subcommittee on Wednesday directed staff to continue its study into a north-south bikeway on Third Street from Lincoln Dive to Roosevelt Road.

The subcommittee was presented with two concepts, one that includes vertical protection using concrete curbs, and one that uses on-street parking protection and a horizontal buffer.

The first concept with raised curbs and separated bike lanes will cost nearly $17 million, while the second concept of separating bike lanes by parked cars has a price tag of about $2.1 million.

The vertical protection concept, which is in place to the north of study site, would include the following:

• Vertical protection (concrete curbs) is used on the entire corridor.

• Mountable curb islands.
