ORONO -- The Maine Black Bears scored two wins on opening weekend vs the Holy Cross Crusaders at the new Alfond Arena. Both Friday and Saturday's victories were highlighted by young talent stepping up and the team as a whole maintaining good control of the puck.

“It’s always good when those guys feel confident early on," said head coach Ben Barr. "They were playing the game the right way for the most part. When you work hard, good things tend to happen.”

“It was important for us to get off to a hot start there out of conference," said senior forward Thomas Freel. "We still have a lot of room to improve, but I think we responded well especially considering how the exhibition game went.”
