CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WRAL) - A fire broke out at a firefighter’s house in North Carolina after his dog chewed on a lithium-ion battery.
Lithium-ion batteries are everywhere, with most Americans already having one in their homes. They power different toys, cell phones and even some e-bikes or scooters. While they are safe to use, it is important to know how to get rid of them properly.
It was a near-miss for this 5-year-old rescue, Colton.
His owner, David Sasser, shared the video of the moments after Colton grabbed a lithium-ion powered device, broke the safety seal and chewed up the battery, leading to a fire.
“He bit into it, and you can see it, you know, he’s surprised by it, and then he’s like, uh oh, what did I do?” Sasser said.
