Death row inmate Charles Ray Crawford is continuing to fight his impending execution, this time with his attorneys submitting an emergency motion to the Mississippi Supreme Court just hours before the 59-year-old is set to be executed.
Crawford's execution is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman. For his last meal, Crawford requested a double cheeseburger, french fries, peach cobbler and chocolate ice cream.
Lawyers representing Crawford filed Wednesday afternoon an emergency motion for a stay of execution with the Mississippi Supreme Court, citing the state's response to a motion previously submitted by the defense to the U.S. Supreme Court. The motions center around the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in "McCoy v. Louisiana."
