The Heisman Memorial Trophy, while unquestionably a big prize, is a bit of a media creation. The season-long hype attached to this stiff-armed statue is a bit excessive.

We treat it like a horse-race presidential election when the real work is done late in the season. Just look at the odds sportsbooks threw out in the preseason and see where they stand today.

Texas quarterback Arch Manning was the unquestioned favorite. Clemson’s Cade Klubnik was right up there, too. Now you’d be committed for tossing a few bucks on either.

It’s been a season of high-profile quarterback busts.

Also, one that saw a few rise from relative obscurity.
