RENO, Nev. (KOLO) - The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of the dangers of leaving their cars to warm up as temperatures drop.

They say doing so is an open invitation for theft.

Their office sees a rise in vehicle burglaries during this time of year, and especially when cars are left warming up in driveways and garages.

They gave a few tips to drivers:

Never leave your vehicle running unattended.

Use a remote start system if you have one — and keep the doors locked.

Don’t leave keys, key fobs, or valuables inside your car.
