GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - A collaboration between the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the One Community Family Resource Center has helped feed hundreds of Gainesville families.

A recent donation by the church’s humanitarian channels arrived at the center in a 14,000-pound semitrailer filled with food and supplies.

For two years, Gainesville’s One Community Family Resource Center has offered food, health education and services to families in nearby “food deserts,” serving about 2,000 people each month.

The collaboration came after regional church leader Jake Smith met Pastor Gerard Duncan, executive director of One Community, at a meeting for the Florida Faith-Based and Community-Based Council, which aims to strengthen ties between statewide faith and civic organizations
