BRAYTON, Iowa (WOWT) - Multiple western Iowa communities are under strict water conservation orders after a workplace accident damaged critical water infrastructure, leaving some towns on the brink of running completely dry.

The town of Brayton, with just 142 residents, is among the most vulnerable communities affected by the crisis. Mayor Cally Christensen said the situation has become a constant concern for residents.

“We’ve been on conservation for so long at this point that it’s just been a constant— it’s standard,” Christensen said.
