RED BANK, Tenn. (WDEF)- The fallout is continuing from a tax assessment mistake in Red Bank.

Hamilton County Property Assessor Marty Haynes says that a human error led to a previous, lower tax rate being applied to the city’s taxpayers.

This led to Red Bank being shorted a million dollars of revenue, and the misapplied tax rate cannot be changed.

Hamilton County Commissioner, David Sharpe, who represents that community, says this mistake is devastating for the town.

Sharpe said, “The progress on their strategic plan, for which has been supported through three separate municipal elections, should be kept intact and on schedule. In short, the city of Red Bank needs to be made whole, some way.”

Sharpe says he is looking into a resolution to deal with this situation.
