Canada's Denis Shapovalov advanced to the quarterfinals of the Stockholm Open tennis tournament with a 6-2, 5-7, 6-1 win over hometown favourite Leo Borg on Wednesday,

Shapovalov, the third seed in Stockholm, had six aces and won 83 per cent of first serve points against Borg, the 22-year-old son of Swedish tennis great Bjorn Borg.

Borg, who earned a wild-card entry into the main draw of the ATP 250 tournament in Sweden's capital, struggled to pick up wins on serve. He faced 18 break points in the match, defending 11 of them.

The Swede appeared to take control of the game in the second set, when he had two of his three breaks in a four-game winning streak to close off the set.
