GLASGOW, Ky. – In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, T.J. Regional Health hosted a Lunch and Learn event to educate the Glasgow community on early detection and prevention.
The session focused on the importance of mammograms and regular at-home breast self-exams. While both men and women can be affected by breast cancer, thousands of women in Kentucky were diagnosed with the disease in 2023.
Health experts say early detection plays a key role in survival, with more than 4 million breast cancer survivors nationwide.
“As a medical community, we’ve done a better job at promoting mammography and early detection for breast cancer,” said nurse practitioner Melanie Isbell. “I think that has helped in why we have such high numbers of women who are survivors.”
