GILMER, Texas — When you think of the Yamboree livestock show, you may imagine steers, goats or other farm animals, but there's also a spotlight on some smaller contestants— like rabbits!

The Yamboree Rabbit Show features students from FFA chapters across East Texas. Students raise their rabbits for about six weeks, making sure they're healthy, fed and show ready.

"It teaches them responsibility," Bobby Eilers, a Yamboree Rabbit Show judge said. He's been raising rabbits for nearly 50 years.

Judges evaluate each rabbit based on a variety of factors: weight, size, appearance and overall condition.

The top rabbits move on to the championship round, where winners earn cash prizes often put toward college or school expenses— turning these tiny animals into a huge investment in their future
