ROCKFORD, Ill. — Local families can now receive extra help paying their energy bills.
Applications are now open for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, or LIHEAP. The program offers payments made straight to utility companies to help cover lower income Rockford families' energy bills.
The program is designed to help people who are struggling keep their lights on.
To qualify for LIHEAP, households must meet state income guidelines and prepare certain documents .
