NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — Newport Superintendent Colleen Burns Jermain will step down from her position at the end of this school year.

Jermain made the announcement during Tuesday's School Committee meeting. Her final day coincides with her contract ending on June 30, 2026.

"Leading Newport Public Schools has been the honor," Jermain said in a press release. "I am grateful for the many wonderful community partnerships we have built to benefit our students, the generosity of so many who have supported us through the development of innovative new learning experiences, and the broad community support for the construction of our Pell Elementary addition and our beautiful new Rogers High School."
