MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) - A 17-year-old boy is recovering from his injuries after police say he accidentally shot himself at a fast-food restaurant in Mishawaka.
Police say they were called just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday to the McDonald’s on Lincolnway East near Capital Avenue on reports of shots fired.
When they arrived, they found a vehicle containing four people under the age of 18. Police say one of them, a 17-year-old boy, had shot himself in the leg by accident.
The 17-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
“The Mishawaka Police Department stresses that guns are not toys,” said Sgt. Steve Headley. “They must be treated with caution and handled responsibly. It is fortunate this particular incident did not end up worse than it has.”
