‘Youth Code Red Training’ held in Owensboro

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WFIE) - An Owensboro organization is helping kids better prepare for difficult, stressful situations.

The Dugan Best Recreation center partnered with RiverValley Behavioral Health for Youth Code Red Training.

The strategy uses the ‘plan which stands for ‘Contact Delay Relax Distract’. The program is made for students in 6th grade or higher.. and during the event the kids were able to fill out their own code red plans to prepare for any scenario.

“It’s hard to think about what am I supposed to do? Who am I supposed to call? How can I get over this? How can I cope in a healthy way? And so this is just an opportunity for adults, and for children, for youth, to be able to have a plan ready for them for whenever they have their worst day,” said Prevention Associate Heidi Wils
