TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - Flooded bathrooms, broken electrical outlets, and falling ceiling tiles could soon be addressed in Sunnyside schools, but only if voters approve a new bond proposal.
The Sunnyside Unified School District is asking taxpayers to support Proposition 416, a $120 million bond that would cost homeowners around $3.67 per month for every $100,000 in home value.
Rachael Eggebeen, the Vice President of the Sunnyside Educators Association, said the money is desperately needed for basic infrastructure repairs that have been neglected due to insufficient state and federal funding.
Eggebeen teaches eighth-grade social studies at Apollo Middle, where she said flooding bathrooms have become a weekly occurrence, forcing students to walk across campus to find working facilities.
