CLEVELAND HEIGHTS — Nine residents applied to fill a vacant seat on Cleveland Heights City Council, following a leadership shakeup that saw former Council President Tony Cuda become interim mayor on Oct. 1.

Cuda stepped into the role after voters overwhelmingly recalled previous Mayor Kahlil Seren in the Sept. 9 primary election.

The candidates for the empty seat, whose applications the city published on its website after the Oct. 10, come from a range of professional backgrounds, including education, law, nonprofit leadership and public service.
