LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - TxDOT’s recent construction projects have left mixed emotions among Lufkin residents.

“I’m good with the construction,” said Lufkin resident George Deckard. “It’s an inconvenience now, but in the long run, it will be great.”

Deckard has lived in Lufkin for the past eight years. He lives near State Loop 287, a main highway that runs through the city. He said it’s a hassle entering it.

“When you’re coming from Southwood and Feagan and going onto 287, it’s actually dangerous because the cars are coming up behind you,” Deckard said. “So, you have to make an abrupt stop, and it can cause an accident. As a matter of fact I’ve seen several accidents on either side of 287 for that exact reason.”

So instead, he avoids it altogether.
