Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is expected to receive heavy downpour from October 16 as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that onset of northeast monsoon in the state.
“The rains will progress through the 3rd and 4th week of October and will gain momentum in the first week of November. Thunderstorms and strong winds are expected across the state during the initial phases of the NE monsoon”, said a senior official in the IMD.
As per the IMD alert, southwest monsoon will withdraw from India during next 24 hours and northeast monsoon rainfall activity is likely to commence over south east peninsular region which includes Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Lakshadweep during the same period.
