CANYON, Texas (KFDA) - West Texas A&M University is marking a significant milestone as its social work program celebrates 50 years of preparing students to serve families and communities across the region.
The program, established in 1975, has graduated hundreds of students who have gone on to work in schools, hospitals, nonprofits, and other community organizations.
Social workers provide crucial support to families, children, and communities during difficult times, offering mental health assistance, connections to resources, and advocacy for their clients.
“Social workers impact people for generations,” said Ruth DeAnda, director of social work and undergraduate program at WTAMU. “And so, if you have a negative experience with a social worker, you may not ever trust one again, but if
