KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Rural Metro Fire says a driver was uninjured after a semi-truck veered off of Interstate 40 and caught fire in the nearby woods Wednesday evening.

It happened around 6:30 p.m. in the woods off eastbound I-40 between N. Campbell Station Road and Lovell Road.

Officials say a semi-truck driver lost control, drove off the interstate and deep into the woods behind the Turkey Creek mall area before the truck caught fire.

Crews located and rescued the driver and were able to put out the fire before it could spread too far into the woods. The driver was uninjured. One firefighter was taken to the hospital suffering from heat exhaustion.

Officials say the semi-truck was not carrying any hazardous materials and no other vehicles were involved.
