About seven hours after Coach Emma Hayes announced the return of Trinity Rodman to the USWNT, Rodman ended her Washington Spirit game on crutches.

Rodman, because of a lingering back injury, had played only one U.S. game — scoring in a 60-minute appearance vs. Brazil last April — since helping the USA win gold at the 2024 Olympics. The 23-year-old’s inclusion headlined Hayes’ roster announcement for October friendlies against Portugal (Oct. 23 & 26 ) and New Zealand (Oct. 29).

But in the 37th minute of her Washington Spirit's 4-0 win over Monterrey in the Concacaf W Champions Cup, Rodman stayed down after attempting a tackle and was in tears while helped off the field.
