A member of the Christiana School Board who has been living in Pakistan for most of the past two years was removed by his peers Wednesday night.
Dr. Naveed Baqir had been serving on the board while he said he was tending to his elderly family members and academic studies in Pakistan.
Baqir joined the board in 2021, and was due to have his district seat come up for election this upcoming May.
Even while in Asia, Baqir had proven to be a key vote in a slew of 4-3 decisions, including the removal of former Superintendent Dan Shelton last year.
Since that point, Delaware lawmakers signed House Bill 82 , requiring board members to be present for more than 75% of the days within a year, except for military service or "an event that can neither be anticipated nor controlled."
