LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Orphan Grain Train, a faith-based volunteer organization that provides food, clothing and other supplies to people in need in Nebraska and around the world, has opened an upgraded food-packing facility in Lincoln.

Founded in 1992 to help fight poverty overseas, the organization has since served more than 70 countries as well as communities across the United States.

Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird cut the ribbon Wednesday and toured the facility. While the Lincoln branch has operated for years, manager Jim Carter said the renovation will reduce the time and number of volunteers needed to pack Mercy Meals.

“Having the facility ready and up and working, it’s gonna really blow up here I think,” Carter said. “So we need volunteers.”
