CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — After a week off, 18th-ranked Virginia is back on the field this weekend with plenty at stake. The Cavaliers, now 5-1 and riding a four-game win streak, will host Washington State — a team that’s better than its record suggests.
The Cougars enter the matchup at 3-3 but nearly pulled off a major upset last week, pushing No. 4 Ole Miss before falling 24-14.
Virginia head coach Tony Elliott said his team can’t afford to underestimate the visitors, noting that both programs share a key similarity.
“A lot of people say that Virginia plays hard,” Elliott said. “Well, when you watch Washington State, they play hard through all three phases.”
A win Saturday would make the Cavaliers bowl eligible for the first time since 2021 — but Elliott insists that milestone hasn’t be
