ATHENS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) - Rock blasting is underway in Meigs County, with plans to start in Athens County in a couple of weeks. It’s all part of a project to expand U.S. 33 from two to four lanes.
“We’re just trying to move as much dirt and rock as we can to try to get some areas leveled out,” Rich Oster, deputy director for ODOT District 10, said.
He said before blasting starts in Athens County, officials and the contractor first host a meeting to address any concerns or questions from homeowners.
“You watch the old movies and you see blasting going on, and you see rock flying everywhere, and that’s not the case with what we’re doing here,” Oster said. “It’s usually just a cloud of dust and maybe a little vibration in the ground.”
