Ariarne Titmus is making a splash in a very different arena- reality television- after announcing her shock retirement from swimming at just 25 years of age.

The four-time Olympic gold medallist is set to star in Channel Nine's upcoming reality series SHARK!, alongside The Block host Scott Cam and four other celebrities.

The show, which will air in May next year, takes place in the Bahamas and is fronted by Australian shark attack survivor Paul de Gelder.

According to Nine, the celebrities will "face high-tension, heart-stopping shark challenges to conquer their fears" under de Gelder's guidance.

Titmus' new gig comes after she stunned fans on Thursday by revealing her decision to step away from the sport in a heartfelt video shared on Instagram.
