GILBERT, AZ (AZFamily) — After hundreds of complaints aimed at town officials over skyrocketing water bills, Gilbert leaders are, for the first time, taking some accountability.
The discussion unfolded at Tuesday night’s Gilbert Town Council meeting, where water bills dominated what is typically a routine agenda. Residents flooded into the room, some carrying their bills in hand.
Before public comment began, Public Works Director Jessica Marlow delivered a presentation explaining how leaks can contribute to high bills and how the recent rate increases should affect residents.
“First, I want to take a minute to help kind of walk through what may contribute to a high utility bill,” said Marlow. “The average customer would see their bill increase by about $40 a month.”
