More than 46 kilometres of fire-damaged walking tracks are being repaired across the Morton and Budawang National Parks, including the famed Castle Walking Track.

A $4.9 million project has commenced to replace burnt-out steps and repair eroded track surfaces, ensuring this unique and largely untouched part of NSW remains in pristine condition.

Work on The Castle Cooyoyo track has started and is due to be completed by early 2026.

The Castle is a well-known, massive, fortress-like rock formation with steep, cliff-lined walls.

In addition to replacing steps, water bars will be installed to divert water away from the track, reduce erosion, and improve the surface's traction.

Where required, elevated boardwalk sections will go in to keep walkers off sensitive native vegetation.
