Advocates say laws introduced by the NSW Nationals in 2018 to protect the "heritage value" of the brumby population and shape the current population targets have trashed Kosciuszko National Park.
Independent MP Joe McGirr introduced a bill to NSW parliament to ditch the Kosciuszko Wild Horse Heritage Act, which he said would stop brumbies being given special preference over native species.
The bill is supported by the Labor government and the Liberals, and passed the lower house on Thursday.
