FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- A kick-off campaign event took place on Wednesday for Dr. Johnny Alvarado, who is running for the office of Fresno County Superintendent of Schools.

At the event, Alvarado declared he's running for the position to help improve academic achievements in the county and to make connections with students and administrators.

Alvarado says his long-standing experience here in the valley sets him apart from the other candidates.

"I have run the gammet throughout Fresno County in my career and I want to be able to serve so our students will be able to reach levels of achievement that we haven't been experiencing, especially for the last 11 years in Fresno County," Alvarado said.
