Strong Earthquake Hits Papua, Indonesia; No Tsunami Alert
A strong earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale struck Papua province in Indonesia on Thursday. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the quake occurred at a depth of 70 km beneath the earth's surface. The epicenter was located approximately 200 km from Abepura, a city with a population exceeding 62,000 residents.
Despite the intensity of the tremor, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center confirmed that there was no need for a tsunami warning. This seismic event has raised concerns, but authorities have assured the public that there is no immediate threat of a tsunami following the earthquake.
Earlier on the same day, a separate earthquake of magnitude 6.5 was recorded off the coast of Indonesia, but details regarding its impact and depth are still emerging.
