Collier Primary School principal Emma Bancroft has been revealed as one of three finalists in the Fred Hollows Humanitarian of the Year awards.
Shortlisted from almost 30 nominations, Ms Bancroft was nominated for the national award for her work forming a language translation network to foster greater inclusion in her school community.
The group comprises 21 parents who are fluent in 14 languages.
41 per cent of her students speak a language other than English at home.
Ms Bancroft started the Translation Support group in 2022 to bridge the language gap that many of her school community experienced.
Some of the languages included in the program are Arabic, Bengali, Cantonese, Mandarin, Dzongkha, Farsi, French, Indonesian, Sinhalese, Vietnamese and Welsh.
