A GP has shared a list of items that people might want to stockpile as respiratory illnesses start to spread.

Covid infections have escalated to "medium levels", says the UK Health Security Agency, and the number of patients hospitalised with the virus has surged by 69% in a month, according to the Express.

As the colder weather approaches and people begin to spend more time indoors, cases of respiratory viruses are predicted to keep rising.

Dr Roger Henderson, a GP and spokesperson for Olbas, has advised people to be ready.

He suggested: "Stock up on basics like paracetamol or ibuprofen, tissues, lozenges, cough syrup, natural decongestants, rehydration salts, and a thermometer.

"Ensure you've got hand soap, hand gel, and some masks if someone falls ill and if possible, try to maint
