BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WFSB) - The former director of school construction for Connecticut is expected to take the stand Thursday in his federal bribery trial.
Kosta Diamantis has pleaded not guilty to 22 federal counts including bribery, extortion, conspiracy and making false statements to investigators.
From the first day of the trial , Diamantis has suggested he could testify in his own defense.
Prosecutors allege Diamantis steered no-bid contracts to help himself and his family while he oversaw school construction between 2018 and 2021.
According to prosecutors, Diamantis took tens of thousands of dollars in bribes during his tenure.
One witness testified that Diamantis told him he was using that money to pay for his daughter’s tuition and wedding.
