Radio presenter Dave Berry had fans in fits of laughter after mistakenly thinking new cereal "Very Berry Cheerios" was named in his honour.

The breakfast host had spotted the product on the shelves in his local supermarket and told his audience that he was delighted.

"I know for many of you, I border on national treasure status, and this goes a long way to confirming that," Dave said. "I'm quite moved really."

But all was not as it seemed. It was up to co-host Matt Dyson to break the news that the cereal wasn't, in fact, named after him. It just has a berry taste.

Despite his disappointment, Dave and his family are still fans. "Alright, it was too good to be true! Matt was right (for once!) and it's not actually named after me," he said.

"All jokes aside, this new addition to the Cheerios family is genuinely delicious. My daughter and I are absolutely loving them, and anything that makes our mornings a bit smoother and tastier is a little win in my book."

Dave isn't the only one who finds breakfast time challenging with 40% of parents naming it the most difficult part of the day for their family.

When it comes to choosing breakfast cereals, 87% of parents surveyed are looking for something that's both tasty and part of a nutritious breakfast routine. Three quarters (75%) have experienced their little ones refusing to eat altogether. And 30% said that being able to eat breakfast as a family would be a small victory in the morning.

Sarah Fordy, Nestlé cereals head of marketing, said: "Despite not 'officially' being named after Dave Berry, it's great to have the seal of approval from the King of Breakfast himself!

"We know mornings can be a real challenge for families, and parents are constantly looking for those 'little wins' to start the day right - it turns out radio hosts are no exception.

"With New Very Berry Cheerios, we're delivering just that: a delicious and fun breakfast that the whole family will enjoy, combined with whole grains and fibre that parents can feel good about.

"It's all about bringing that vibrant taste of berries to our beloved Cheerios, making those chaotic mornings a little brighter and a lot tastier for the whole family."
