A social media post by someone claiming to be a professor at Concordia University has sparked controversy after suggesting a violent approach to dealing with "hardcore Zionists." The comment, made in response to a post by Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME), stated, "Kill them all," and was directed at colleagues in the math department at McGill University.
The CJPME post featured an image of McGill University, highlighting a recent vote by the faculty association to endorse a Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel. The user, who appears to share a name with a Concordia professor, criticized colleagues for their reactions to accusations of antisemitism, ending the comment with three vomiting emojis.
The identity of the individual has not been confirmed by Concordia University, which has not verified whether the person is indeed a faculty member. The professor's profile picture on social media matches that of the Instagram account, which follows other accounts known for anti-Zionist content.
The comment was initially posted on Friday evening and remained visible until it was deleted on Tuesday morning, shortly after the professor was named on social media. An account under the professor's name has also made disparaging remarks about Zionists and colleagues.
Attempts to reach the professor via email and phone were unsuccessful. Concordia spokesperson Vannina Maestracci stated, "Calls to violence and threats against specific groups are unacceptable," but did not confirm whether an investigation into the comments was underway. She emphasized that allegations of misconduct are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly.
On Wednesday, a visit to Concordia's media relations department did not yield further information. When asked about the "Kill them all" comment, a staff member dismissed the statement, saying, "That isn’t what she said." Maestracci later emailed, claiming that a media visit to the office "borders on harassment."
Attempts to speak with the professor directly were met with resistance. Staff members at her department stated they had no comment and suggested that the media should have business to conduct in the area. The situation remains unresolved as the university has not provided clarity on the matter or confirmed any ongoing investigation.
