As many as 24 people from the transgender community in Indore allegedly consumed phenyl on Wednesday night. An official said they were admitted to a government hospital afterward.
"Around 25 people from the transgender community have been admitted to our hospital. They have claimed to have consumed phenyl together, but this cannot be immediately confirmed," Dr. Basant Kumar Ningwal, Superintendent-in-Charge of the government-run Maharaja Yashwantrao Hospital (MYH), told PTI.
He also said that one of the people who had consumed phenyl was in critical condition. However, it remains largely unclear why the members of the transgender community resorted to consuming phenyl.
