Police have issued an urgent warning following a spate of 'bogus builder' fraud incidents in south Manchester.

Officers in Chorlton and Whalley Range have received multiple reports of cold callers claiming to provide building services.

Greater Manchester Police say the culprits take money from unsuspecting residents in advance.

However, the fraudsters fail to deliver on the promised work, leaving the victim out of pocket.

In one recent instance, GMP says a vulnerable elderly man lost more than £1,000 to a scammer in this way.

Officers are now urging people to speak to elderly and vulnerable neighbours, relatives and friends to raise awareness about the issue.
