Ross Greer has challenged Scottish Labour to publish its membership figures after the Greens witnessed a surge in Scots signing-up. ‌

The environmentalists now boast their highest number of members since 2016 and are on track to reach a new record high by next year’s Holyrood election. ‌

The number of card-carrying Greens has grown by 800 in the past six months to stand at 8,279 - a total comfortably ahead of the Scottish Conservatives and Scottish Lib Dems. ‌

The SNP remains Scotland's largest party by membership but Greer now believes the Greens are on course to be number two.

Asked if he thought his party had more members than Labour, the co-leader told the Record: "I would welcome Scottish Labour being open, honest and transparent about their members
