The estimated cost of dredging at the Port Dover and Port Rowan Harbour Marinas could be nearly $2 million more than what was forecast in Norfolk County’s capital budget.

A report presented by staff at a council-in-committee meeting on Wednesday estimates the cost of dredging and disposing the soil at the Port Dover Marina at $1.21 million. The approved budget for the project was $120,000.

The cost of dredging and soil disposal at the Port Rowan Marina is $1.22 million. The approved budget was $410,000.

Mayor Amy Martin, noting the county was accused of using inflated cost estimates for marina-related projects during discussions about whether it would retain ownership of the properties earlier this year, asked staff how it could “get their dredging numbers so wrong.”
