PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- A Peoria firefighter is under medical care and being evaluated after suffering a "medical emergency' while helping to battle an early morning house fire Thursday.

The firefighter was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to OSF Healthcare Saint Francis Medical Center. The firefighter's immediate condition wasn't known.

Crews were called to a house in the 800 block of West Nowland Avenue just before 3:45 a.m. on a report of a house fire. When they arrived, they found the two-story home ablaze with some flames reaching into the second floor.

The house was unoccupied at the time and it was quickly put out. There were no civilian injuries.

A fire investigator was called to the scene to determine the origin and the cause of the fire.
