A Centre County assistant football coach was charged with driving under the influence after he crashed the pickup truck he was driving.

Matthew R. Masullo, 44, of Spring Twp., was charged by summons with two misdemeanor counts of DUI, according to the Centre Daily Times.

The incident occurred at about 5:40 p.m. Aug. 16 near the intersection of Mill Street and Axemann Road in Spring Twp. Police said Masullo smelled of alcohol, slurred his speech and had red, watery eyes.

Police said his blood alcohol content was 0.174%, which is about twice the legal limit. An affidavit reported he told officers he drank three or four beers at a nearby brewery.

Masullo was then taken via ambulance to a nearby medical center. The nature of his injuries were not clear.
