One of Australia’s oldest remaining World War II veterans has died at the age of 105, surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday.

Bruce Robertson served with distinction in the Royal Australian Air Force and provided much-needed support during the historic Kokoda campaign.

The war hero also holds the significant honour of being the first radio operator to detect Japanese submarines off Sydney Harbour in 1942, a crucial moment in Australia’s wartime defence.

Robertson’s passing marks the loss of another link to Australia’s wartime history, as the number of surviving World War II veterans continues to dwindle.
