Mayor Craig Greenberg has nominated Ed Harness to serve a second four-year term as Louisville’s inspector general, a move likely to draw praise from community groups advocating for continued police reform.

Greenberg’s decision came 16 days after he said at a news conference that he was looking forward to talking with Harness about his future “in the very near future.” The nomination will now go before the Louisville Metro Council.

Created in 2020 by then-Mayor Greg Fischer after the fatal police shooting of Breonna Taylor, the Office of Inspector General was designed to provide independent oversight and serve as a check on police misconduct.
