Police issued a warning about a viral social media trend involving artificial intelligence.

The trend is called the "AI homeless man prank."

Social media users began using artificial intelligence to create fake images of a man inside their home and send it to a loved one as a prank.

After sending the photo, users wait for their loved one to respond and then post it to social media.

The AI images show a man at the front door, on the couch, and even playing the piano.

"You're causing your friends or your family to panic, to think you're in danger. Number two, you're tying up police, public safety answering point, a 911, dispatch center. You're wasting the police resources," Salem police Captain John Burke said.
